Renewing Your Mind
By Rick Box
Several months ago, as a
board member of a private school, I toured an abandoned
school. It was empty, dirty, cold and in disrepair. Tile
was chipped off the floors, colors were bland and faded,
and it seemed much bigger and more expensive than what
reason would dictate we needed.
What a difference a few
short months can make! Today this same facility has
sparkling hallways, bright and lively carpeted rooms, and
warmth radiates from the festive decorations. The number
of children this new facility serves has already grown to
where the size and financial concerns are minimal.
As the sole dissenter
against this move, my so-called "voice of
reason" appears to have actually been a voice of
limitation. What didn't seem practical to me at the time,
with hindsight, now seems like a natural progression. My
lack of vision put limitations on God's will.
The apostle Paul wrote
in Romans 12:2, "Do not conform any longer to the
pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing
of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve
what God's will is - his good, pleasing and perfect
will."
For big visions to be
accomplished in business, it's necessary that we not limit
the possibilities. By looking beyond the natural order of
things, and allowing God to renew our mind, the
possibilities are endless. There's a place for caution and
reason, but not if it limits God's perfect will. My hat is
off to my courageous peers at Horizon Academy. Their
foresight has already been rewarded by the additional
children's lives being impacted each day.
If you're at a
crossroads, and your choices include options that seem
impossible, stop and reflect on what God is capable of
accomplishing, rather than on what seems practical. Be
transformed by the renewing of your mind, and then maybe
you will find God's will for your circumstance.
